Bujumbura plans to stage inaugural marathon event at the end of August

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER – BUJUMBURA (HALF) MARATHON SET FOR 31ST OF AUGUST

Information has come to light that on 31st of August will a marathon event be staged in Burundi’s capital city of Bujumbura. Three competitions will be held, a 3 kilometre family run, a 10 kilometre run for amateurs and a half marathon over 21 kilometres for professional runners. This is the first such sporting event to be held and was initiated by the Kenyan Embassy in Burundi as part of their 50th anniversary celebration in conjunction with local partners. The theme of the inaugural event was given as: ‘I run for fraternity | I love Bujumbura’.

Online registration is ongoing for the marathon which according to information from a third party source is intended to become part of an annual calendar of sporting, cultural and other events.
