REGIONAL AIRLINES ARE JOINED BY BRUSSELS AIRLINES AS AIR TRAFFIC IN AND OUT OF BURUNDI PICKS UP PACE

Bujumbura’s international airport is now fully operational again, after Uganda Airlines returned to Burundi with presently 3 flights a week ahead of Kenya Airways which now serves the route again with 3 flights a week.
Ethiopian Airlines plans to step up flights from the present twice weekly cargo frequency to daily passenger flights, either combined with another waypoint or if operated as a single stop service using a DeHavilland Dash 8-400 aircraft.
RwandAir too is reportedly returning to Bujumbura in early December with an initial 4 flights a week, also using a Dash 8-400.
Brussels Airlines, as the only airline from outside Africa, has resumed a once a week service into Burundi, giving the country the only direct flight link to Europe.
#COVID19 measures though are not conducive for travelers, as besides a PCR test – taken not later than 72 hours before arrival – are passengers also required to go into quarantine for at least 3 more days to await the results of a locally conducted test, a sharp departure from common practice established across Eastern Africa that a negative test result will be enough to disembark and enter a country.
