PASSENGERS AND CREW HAVE NARROW ESCAPE AS C208B SUFFERS HEAVY DAMAGE ON LANDING

A Cessna Grand Caravan C208B, registered in Kenya as 5Y-BUC, reportedly suffered a forced landing near the airfield in Padek, South Sudan.
The aircraft, manufactured in 1994, MSN 208B0400 appears registered to Flex Air Charters of Nairobi.
Initial information speaks of two crew and 17 passengers on board the aircraft, but this figure must be questioned as C208B’s in East Africa are normally operating with only 11 or 12 passengers something the air accident investigation now unfolding will no doubt look into.

No significant injuries were reportedly sustained by those on board.
The Cessna Grand Caravan was once upon a time considered as one of the safest single engine planes in use but this reputation has in more recent times taken a downturn after a series of accidents this aircraft type has suffered.
Hull loss accidents world wide now stand at 214 with 456 fatalities according to statistics released by the Aviation Safety Net with a notable increase in incidents over the past few years.
