CHILD DEAD AS KILLER PLANE ESCAPES
(Posted 25th August 2017)
Four people were injured and a child was killed when an aircraft contracted by the UN’s World Food Programme for emergency food airdrops bodged its landing attempt in Juba.
According to reports coming in did the aircraft attempt to land in sweeping rain and touched both a tree and then the roof of a house in the approach path, causing the roof to collapse.
The aircraft’s crew reportedly managed to have the plane climb again and subsequently escaped to Entebbe in neighbouring Uganda where damages are currently being assessed.
Investigations are now underway in South Sudan as well as by WFP to establish the causes of the incident.
Questions are also being asked if and how the aircraft obtained permission to leave the South Sudanese airspace instead of being ordered to land either in Juba or divert to another South Sudan airfield.
