Drive for tourists from China for Seychelles intensifies

In November will the Seychelles Tourism Board, in partnership with the Embassy of Seychelles in China, co-host this year’s so called appreciation evening, an event dedicated to the travel industry and travel media in China. The event will take place on Friday, November 18th in Beijing and will mark the fifth anniversary since the opening of the Seychelles Tourism Board’s office in China. It will also be the first time that the Seychelles Tourism Board will be awarding both the press and the Chinese travel trade for all their dedication in working with the Seychelles.

The Minister for Tourism & Culture, Mr. Alain St.Ange, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Ms. Sherin Naiken, are both expected to be present on this special occasion and a series of press and media sessions are already being prepared to raise the visibility of the Seychelles in China even further.

Stephanie Lablache, from the Marketing Department at the Seychelles Tourism Board, has written to the local tourism trade and airlines linking Seychelles to China to join hands with the Seychelles Tourism Board to say thank you to the Chinese trade and press for their devotion towards the Seychelles. Presently do Emirates connect Dubai twice a day to the Seychelles, as does the partnership of Air Seychelles and Etihad. Turkish Airlines will shortly commence three times a week flights between Istanbul and Mahe and Qatar Airways will from November onwards return to the archipelago with daily flights.

Also available for vacations in the Seychelles are Kenya Airways which flies from Nairobi to China and then four times a week on to Mahe, all of them connecting China with the archipelago.

In the meantime and to start the increase of visibility for the Seychelles drive, Minister Alain St.Ange at the end of last week met for an interview with the popular Jia Yuan Yuan of Shandong TV for their Holiday Travel Program. The Shandong TV crew is in Seychelles to prepare a major prime time television program on Seychelles as the new holiday destination for Chinese holidaymakers.

Also in Seychelles last week was a group of business leaders who called on the Tourism Minister to see how, through greater cooperation, more Chinese tourists could benefit from a Seychelles holiday. The Seychelles are part of the Vanilla Islands organization which brings together seven islands in the Indian Ocean.
