ZAMBIA’S PROFLIGHT AND RWANDAIR SIGN EXTENSIVE CODE SHARE DEAL
(Posted 19th March 2015)
It was confirmed a short while ago that RwandAir and Zambia’s Proflight will codeshare on the route between Lusaka and Johannesburg when the three times a week flights from Kigali commence on the 27th of March.
It is understood that Proflight will be marketing the sectors from Lusaka to Johannesburg and back. The service will initially operate every Monday, Tuesday and Friday when the flight from Kigali will stop in Zambia’s capital city before flying on at 21.50 hrs, reaching Johannesburg at 23.50 hrs.
Return will be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, with the flight leaving Johannesburg at 07.15 hrs in the morning, reaching Lusaka at 09.15 hrs and after a short stop then flying back to Kigali.
The aircraft used is one of RwandAir’s Boeing B737-800NG’s SkyInterior, configured in a two class business and economy class. Fares between Lusaka and Johannesburg, according to the information received, will start as low as US Dollars 180 one way inclusive of all taxes.
The second stage of the agreement will then extend to single ticketing, allowing RwandAir passengers from Kigali, or any point of RwandAir’s network, to reach Proflight’s domestic destinations like Livingstone, Mfuwe, Lower Zambezi, Ndola, Solwezi and Kasama, and regional routes to Lilongwe in Malawi, and from Ndola to Lubumbashi. Proflight later this year plans to add Kafue National Park to its routes in 2015. Proflight uses three 29-seater Jetstream 41 aircraft, four 18-seater Jetstream 32 aircraft and two 12-seater Cessna Grand Caravan C208 aircraft.
Mr. Mikael Gobena, the Commercial Director of RwandAir, upon releasing the information earlier today, was quoted to have said: ‘We highly value our new code share partnership with Proflight and are thrilled to see African carriers creating partnerships, synergy and affordability for the benefit of the travelling public’.
The deal gives RwandAir additional destinations without having to fly themselves to Livingstone, Ndola or even Lubumbashi while in turn offering Proflight the opportunity to work hand in hand with one of Eastern Africa’s fastest growing airlines with an extensive network covering South to East to West Africa and Dubai.
In turn did Proflight also release a short statement by Capt. Philip Lemba, the Proflight Director for Government and Industry Affairs: ‘Proflight Zambia can now proudly say that it is offering a direct service from Lusaka to Johannesburg, and of course the flight also connects into our domestic network of destinations, providing added convenience and value for Zambian passengers’.
