Could FlyDubai shift some of the Burundi capacity to Rwanda?

Dubai’s own low cost airline, FlyDubai, last week formally launched their country office in the Rwandan capital of Kigali. The airline, which flies daily to Entebbe in Uganda, extends presently three flights a week to Kigali, with two more extending to Bujumbura in Burundi.

With that country presently in economic and tourism freefall however is it only a matter of time before a re-alignment of capacity will be coming up for a decision and the main beneficiary could be Rwanda, where rapid economic growth and a strong global appeal for travel to the Land of a Thousand Hills has driven visitor numbers up year after year.

National airline RwandAir presently flies daily from Kigali to Dubai with three flights each week routing via Mombasa while the only other Gulf airline besides FlyDubai is Qatar Airways, which serves Rwanda daily in conjunction with Entebbe in Uganda.

The FlyDubai country office will reportedly also process Visa applications by Rwandans wishing to travel to Dubai, an added benefit for travelers who have been able to fly to the UAE’s most vibrant city at fares from as low as US Dollars 399 per person in economy while special deals in business class went for as low as US Dollars 999.
