Diani rocks … in more than one way

A very recent return to Diani, Kenya’s award winning stretch of an almost endless white beach, once again gave valuable insights into the destination and brought several key aspects of social and sporting life to the fore.
In the past was regular mention made about events like Diani Rules or the Diani Beach Touch Rugby Tournament, about Skydiving, Microlighting and so much more.
The 8th edition of the beach rugby tournament will this year take place from the 08th to the 10th of July and when reading on all details are revealed how to sign up and what to expect.

What is the Diani’s Touch?

The Diani Beach 5-a-Side Touch Rugby tournament takes place in Kenya on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Five kilometres of wonderful white sand, amazing clear blue waters with a coral reef running parallel six hundred meters offshore.
Diani Beach is situated 35km South of Mombasa, voted top beach destination in Africa in 2015, it is without doubt the idyllic setting for the annual tournament.
Beside the Touch Rugby, Diani offers many activities to entertain the whole family: the full range of Water Sports and Scuba Diving, a 18 hole International Golf Course, Deep Sea fishing, Skydiving and Microlight flights for the adrenaline lovers.Day activities including Dolphin spotting and snorkeling at the Kisite Marine Park, and game drives at the Shimba Hills national reserve.
To encounter the Big Five, Diani is only 4 hours drive from the spectacular Tsavo National Park for an overnight safari. An experience not to be missed while in Kenya.

Meet George Barbour, chairman and founder of the Diani’s Touch
(and also East African Tuskers, Scorpions RFC & Kenya XV veteran)
George Barbour started playing rugby in 1949 at Bedford School. He moved to Kenya where his family settled in Kitale. He was soon a regular member of the Kitale team and was selected to the representative provincial West Kenya teams. In 1958/1959 the University of Cape Town Invitation team toured East Africa. George was a member of the West Kenya, Kenya and East African team which played the tourists in 14 matches. The following year he was called up to play in the Scorpions RFC Invitational team then based in Dodoma-Tanganyika. Barbour was a team member of the East African side that hosted Wales in a one off test in May 1964 at the RFUEA Grounds. He was on the 3rd Tuskers tour to England in 1966 and the 4th one in 1972 to Ireland where he also skippered the touring side. He went into Motor racing when he retired and is still engaged in rugby development with his team at Ukunda in the South Coast. He also hosts the famous Diani 5 Beach A-Side tournament every July. George played at loose forward.
