#Diani sees exciting sporting challenge return in November

• Triathlon and Duathlon are multi-sports consisting of different events, typically swimming, cycling, and running that are completed one after the other.

• The Diani Triathlon and Duathlon is set for Sunday 25th November, 2018 at Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa.

• The event has registered over 50 athletes drawn from Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.

• The event is dubbed the “fastest triathlon in Kenya”.

• On offer will be seven different race categories that will cater for adults and children of all fitness levels.

The Diani Triathlon and Duathlon is set to take place on Sunday 25th November, 2018 at Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa. The event has attracted over fifty amateur and professional athletes drawn from across the country who will compete in swimming, cycling and running with the aim of being crowned the fastest triathlete in Kenya.

The challenge, will see participants compete in either the sprint triathlon that consists of a 750m Swim, 20KM Bike, 5KM Run or the Olympic triathlon with a 1500m Swim, 40KM Bike and 10KM Run. Other participants will compete in the sprint duathlon where individuals will run 5KM, cycle 20KM and run 5KM Run. Not to be left out, children aged 11yrs – 16yrs will have their own separate triathlon and duathlon events that are in line with the development agenda of TTF. For the fun seekers, the event will host its renowned team challenge where individuals will come together in groups of three and complete a 750m Swim, 20KM Bike, 5KM Run.

The Diani edition has attracted a list of local favourites such as Mombasa based Abdallah Mansur who has had a stellar year winning the Ruiru, Kilifi and Wildman Watamu Triathlon respectively. Out to challenge him will be last year’s winner Mohammed Suleiman chased by Toby Blake, John Sampson just to name a few. In the female category Josette Kiarie who comes in fresh from winning the Wildman Watamu Triathlon is set battle it out with other favourites such as Kate Rehberg, Gathoni Murimi and Juhaina Ali. Others in attendance will be lawyer Michael Kontos, fitness trainer Shiv Simani, Lydia Camella and Steven Bland.

Speaking on behalf of Team Tri Fit, Race Manager Falgun Bhojak said that “this year’s race will incorporate a unique loop system for the swim, bike and run complete with a spectator friendly beach finish at Diani Reef Beach Resort, as we try to make the event all inclusive”. He further added that “the event will not only cater for the competitive athletes but will also be open to children and those seeking to form teams of three for the corporate challenge and encourages more people to register”.


Now in its third year, the Diani Triathlon and Duathlon is a multi-sport endurance event that is open to amateur and professional triathletes drawn from across the country. The event dubbed “the fastest triathlon in Kenya”, plays out along the award winning Diani Beach, where participants tackle an open water swim, full tarmac bike and run segment along Diani Beach Road. With two main disciplines namely the triathlon (swim, bike, run) and duathlon (run, bike, run) the event attracts over 100 participants and spectators. The Team will this year use the event to raise funds for Teenz Watch Ukunda a Community Based Organization in Diani that seeks to rehabilitate youth from the area who battling drug addictions. The funds raised will be used to setup sustainable work and income generation initiatives that the youth can plug into once done with rehabilitation thus giving them a renewed sense of life.
