Donald Payen has been appointed as the new part-time Chairman of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA). This appointment was endorsed by the Council of Ministers last Friday.

As Principal Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism since August 2020, Donald Payen is no stranger to the Tourism industry. It was after 41 years with the national aviation company, Air Mauritius, where he held several management positions: Commercial Director, Vice-President of Communications, Vice-President of Operations…

Donald Payen, recipient of the British Empire Medal at a ceremony at Westminster House in August 2022 and elevated to the rank of “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite” in May 2017 by France, remains one of the most respected in the tourism industry. In a nutshell, his mission at the supervisory ministry was to advise Steven Obeegadoo on the strategy to be adopted on the sidelines of the reopening of borders and the revival of the tourism sector.

In the current situation, Donald Payen is considered the “providential man” needed to help the MTPA to take a new step in its development so that Mauritius can have more visibility on niche markets and new markets. Now, as president, Donald Payen is called upon to support the director of the MTPA, Arvind Bundhun who “is already doing a good job.”
