Elephants in SA game reserves: Gentle giants or ticking time bombs?

Elephants have long symbolised calmth and strength, yet recent events in South Africa might raise a harder question. Are they truly gentle, or do they carry an edge we often ignore? For travellers and locals alike, understanding this balance is no longer optional, but essential. Days ago, experienced conservationist and co-owner Gary Freeman was killed by an elephant in Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. He was guiding tourists at dusk, and the encounter turned fatal within moments. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but he died at the scene.
