INTERLINE DEAL BETWEEN EMIRATES AND FASTJET TO BENEFIT PASSENGERS OF BOTH AIRLINES

Fastjet and Emirates have now signed an interlining deal from which passengers of both airlines in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa will benefit.
Emirates serves these markets with long haul flights out of Dubai, effectively connecting the world to Dar es Salaam, Harare, Lusaka, Maputo and Johannesburg with one stop, while Fastjet operates regional and domestic services into these hub airports.
Both airlines will now be able to check in passengers to their final destination under one ticket, with notably baggage to be labelled through to the end point of one’s journey and this works in both directions, when either Fastjet or Emirates will be the carrier on which a passenger checks in with and commences the journey.
Said Nico Bezuidenhout, CEO of Fastjet: ‘The agreement is historic for Fastjet. Fastjet has become the first African low-fare airline to engage with major global airline brands. Fastjet connects international hubs with major urban centres in our markets. In Tanzania for example, travellers are able to connect between Dar es Salaam and Mwanza, Kilimanjaro and Mbeya all of which support various industry and tourism nodes. Emirates is one of the leading carriers with more than 18% market share of all inbound traffic into Africa. The interline agreement will have a significant impact on tourism and business travel as Fastjet destinations become accessible to a substantially sized, new market‘.
No comment could be received from Emirates upon the signing of the deal.
