(Posted 29th March 2014)
Nairobi came in as a respectable fifth of Emirates’ top African destination cities, with Johannesburg leading the pack, Cape Town coming in third after Lagos which claimed the runner up spot and Cairo, inspite of the many problems Egypt has been facing over the past two years coming fourth.
Information availed yesterday also confirms that Emirates Holidays’ has Kenya come in as Africa’s second most fancied destination, with South Africa again taking the top spot. Tanzania, Morocco and Zimbabwe make up the rest of the top five giving East Africa two of the 5 leading destination spots.
While Emirates overall operates over 160 flights a week from Dubai to Africa, East Africa is served double daily to Nairobi and to Dar es Salaam while Entebbe presently enjoys daily connections nonstop between Dubai and Uganda.
These statistics underscore the popularity of African destinations among Emirates’ passengers and justifies the number of flights into the continent while in turn passenger numbers from Africa to Dubai and from there flying on to the airline’s global network continue to grow. Many travelers from East Africa fancy in fact changing planes in Dubai and having a chance to fly on the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger plane, now used by Emirates – the world’s largest A380 operator – to ever more destinations around the globe.
