Ethiopian Airlines is finally returning to Durban

(Posted 02nd November 2026)

From 11th of December 2026, the airline will return to Durban and begin to operate a daily non-stop service between King Shaka International Airport (DUR) and Addis Ababa (ADD), using a Boeing 737 MAX on the route.

This marks Ethiopian Airlines’ return to Durban after a nine-year gap and makes the coastal city its third South African destination, alongside Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Through the Addis Ababa Bole (ADD/HAAB) hub, passengers and businesses in KwaZulu-Natal gain seamless one-stop access to Ethiopian’s extensive network across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America, supporting tourism, trade, investment and airfreight growth for the region.

A welcome development for intra-African connectivity and for Durban’s growing international profile.
