The EU has announced €50 million in new funding for tourism and conservation in Uganda. ?? EU Ambassador Jan Sadek announced the commitment during the Uganda-EU Partnership Dialogue in Kampala recently.

It’s welcome news since Uganda’s wildlife and natural landscapes are a major reason people visit, supporting jobs and businesses across accommodation, guiding, transport and hospitality.

The EU is already Uganda’s largest trading partner outside Africa, with annual bilateral trade estimated at €2.4 billion. Both sides also agreed to regular talks on improving the business environment, alongside wider cooperation on private sector growth

How the funding is allocated will be important. For now, the announcement puts tourism and conservation firmly within the Uganda-EU partnership.
