Eurowings Discover, the long haul leisure airline of the Lufthansa Group, has commenced flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania.
The airline, operating an Airbus A330, is now offering two flights a week, via the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa, to allow tourists direct access to Arusha, aka Safari Capital of East Africa and the famous nationalparks and reserves like Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara, Tarangire but also the parks near Arusha like the Arusha National Park and Mt. Kilimanjaro National Park.
Disembarking passengers were greeted by a group of Masai dancers.
A direct linkeage between the beach resorts along the Kenyan coast and a safari in Tanzania with this flight is not possible as the airline has no traffic rights on the sector between MBA and JRO.
Tourism sources in Tanzania have warmly welcomed the new flights as the inaugural service was received with much fanfare, witnessed by government and private sector officials.
