FOND MEMORIES OF FANCOURT AFFIRMED AS HENRY WHITE’S AND LA CANTINA EARN TOP WINE AWARDS

Two of Fancourt’s well-known restaurants on the estate – Henry White’s and La Cantina – have been presented with the sought-after Diners Club Wine List Awards, following on the recognition of last year’s judging panel. The annual awards, which are more than two decades old, recognise eateries that take great care in their wine selection and pairing of food and wine.
This correspondent had the opportunity earlier this year to sample both restaurants while staying at the Manor House and – while not having sampled any of the wines which were offered – can confirm the impressive wine lists and the acumen of the sommelier of the estate.
Diners Club Wine List Awards do not only attract restaurants eager to gain recognition for their class and style, it also attracts an ever-growing number of patrons who understand that the perfect meal is greatly enhanced by a matching fine wine.
Thirty-two restaurants, including Henry White’s, the award winning fine dining restaurant at Fancourt’s romantic boutique hotel Manor House as well as La Cantina, Fancourt’s hugely popular family Italian restaurant – they also serve a mean Egg Benedict for breakfast – achieved ‘diamond’ status, the highest tribute with a score of 91% or higher.
Henry White’s and La Cantina both won the Diamond Award in the Southern Cape territory, with only one other restaurant in the area achieving this accolade. Henry White’s also won the Best Diamond in the Eastern Cape.
