NICO BEZUIDENHOUT RETURNS TO MANGO AS FASTJET SEARCHES ONCE MORE FOR A CEO
(Posted 03rd June 2019)
Confirmation was received yesterday that Nico Bezuidenhout, until now CEO of Fastjet based in Johannesburg, will return to Mango as part of the new team which is being installed at South African Airways and its key subsidiaries like Mango.
ATCNews had reported about his likely departure a few weeks ago already.
Nico is reportedly staying on until the end of September, when he will leave Fastjet after some stormy years which saw the airline withdraw from Tanzania after the aviation regulators, at the behest of government, acted openly hostile to the airline, holding landing rights for Kigoma and for all intent and purpose obstructing the registration of ATR aircraft.
These shenanigans cost Fastjet in excess of a million US Dollars, eventually selling off their shares in Fastjet (Tanzania) but the new owners failed to substantially revive the airline after the TCAA had withdrawn their operating permit.
The airline now operates in Zimbabwe and Mozambique with flights from Harare to Victoria Falls, Johannesburg and Bulawayo while serving domestic routes within Mozambique, several under a joint codeshare deal with national airline LAM.
It is understood that Deputy CEO Mark Hurst will step up as interim CEO until a new substantive CEO has been found.
Fastjet has in recent years repeatedly bagged major aviation awards in the low cost category, most recently at the Africa edition of the World Travel Awards.
Best wishes to Nico in his future endeavours.
