NEW ATR 72-600 BIRD DESTINED FOR FASTJET TANZANIA

(Posted 30th November 2017)

Several aviation sources in Tanzania have now confirmed that it will be the Tanzanian operation of Fastjet which is to take delivery of an ATR72-600.
On 23rd of December did these news first break but there was uncertainty over the ultimate destination of the aircraft.
With the acquisition of this turboprop aircraft – Precision Air is already operating for several years planes from this French manufacturer – has Fastjet also departed from the initial concept of just one aircraft for the entire fleet. It now operates a variety of right sized aircraft, in Tanzania the Embraer E190 and coming in the ATR72-600 while different aircraft are in service in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Once the aircraft has arrived in Dar es Salaam, as early as next week, will a new 5H registration be attached to it promptly as this aircraft is already type approved by the Tanzanian aviation authorities unlike the Embraer E190 which had to undergo the full process of approvals first.
The remaining open question, no doubt soon answered here too, is where the two respective aircraft will operate to from Dar es Salaam, from where the airline presently serves Kilimanjaro, Mwanza and Mbeya on domestic routes and Lusaka and Harare on regional African routes.
The new smaller and lighter aircraft, unlike the Embraer E190, is capable to also flying to Mtwara – aka Tanzania’s gas capital – and other towns across the country with secondary and tertiary airports and aerodromes.
