FOUR YEARS AND COUNTING …

It is four years today that Fastjet took to the skies over Tanzania with a single Airbus A319,
Over the years has the airline grown to a fleet size of as many as six A319’s before more recently an austerity programme has seen the fleet size reduced again, the only owned A319 sold and smaller more efficient aircraft leased to cut cost.
Fastjet Tanzania today serves four domestic destinations out of Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Mbeya and Zanzibar while also operating daily flights to Johannesburg and services to Lusaka and Harare several times a week.
Sister company Fastjet Zimbabwe flies double daily from Harare to Johannesburg and three times a week from Harare to Victoria Falls.
Flights to Entebbe – three times a week – and to Nairobi, once operated doubly daily, are being suspended effective 05th of December to allow for a sweeping review of operations, the number and type of aircraft deployed and flight frequencies in order to move towards profitability.
An additional fund raising will take place in early 2017 when the airline’s head office will have moved from London Gatwick to Johannesburg. Efforts to launch Fastjet in Zambia and Kenya, for now, have been halted until the future direction of the company has been resolved under new CEO Nico Bezuidenhout.
