Festival season starts in the Seychelles with the Seychelles – China Day first out of the blocks

SEYCHELLES SET TO CELEBRATE THE CHINESE SPRING FESTIVAL

(Posted 05th February 2015)

The second edition of the now annual Seychelles – China Day celebrations will this year be held on Mahe from 13th to 15th of February, coinciding with the Chinese Spring Festival. Chinese visitor arrivals have in the recent past rapidly climbed, with some of the highest per annum growth rates from any source market, largely due to the now double daily connections by Emirates but also the Air Seychelles flights to Hong Kong.

For the 2015 event will two cultural troupes from China fly to Mahe, from Shunde and Chengdu, the latter to perform at the opening ceremony which will be held on Eden Island, according to information received. The Shunde group is due for a performance at the Seychelles International Conference Centre on the 15th of February.

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture has over the past few years increasingly embraced, and actively promoted, ethnic festivals to showcase the rainbow nature of the island’s population which was in the past largely influenced by migration from China, India and Africa, besides the European influence from France and Britain.

On board as sponsors are the Chinese Embassy, the Confucius Institute, The Chinese Association in Seychelles and the Chinese business community among others.

At the upcoming Seychelles’ Carnival in April is a cultural troupe from China also once again participating, after captivating the audience last year with a thrilling performance.

In a related development was it also learned that the former Le Meridien Barbarons Resort will finally reopen ahead of the Easter holidays but will be managed by Avani, after the owners decided to end the management contract with Le Meridien and integrate the fully refurbished and modernized resort into their own line of beach resorts.
