Four Seasons Seychelles names winners of first Superchef contest

MEET SEYCHELLES’ FIRST SUPERCHEF WINNERS

(Posted 30th August 2014)

The Four Seasons Resort Seychelles was the venue where the archipelago’s first Superchef was to be selected from among nearly a dozen of contestants competing in the hot and cold dishes and the pastry categories.

At cook-off the seven kitchen chefs in the competition received a box with ingredients from which they had to produce a starter and a main course over the space of three and a half hours while the four pastry chef contestants had similar challenges to meet.

The judges, all experienced chefs and connoisseurs, the embarked on the calorie rich task of tasting the creations they were presented with, for blind judging of purely the taste, for presentation and for the Chefs’ verdict on both taste and presentation.

The winner in each category were Jeffery Antat and Diane dine in the hot dishes and pastry categories respectively with the two runner ups of Bertrand Payet and Fyza Bacco.

The two winners notably won entry into the Hotel Asia International Culinary Challenge next month which will take place in the Maldives, sponsored by Four Seasons Resorts and Etihad which combines with a stay at one of the Maldives top hotels.

Present at the award ceremony for the winners and runner ups was Minister Alain St. Ange, Minister for Tourism and Culture and Ms. Sherin Naiken, CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board.

The hospitality industry stakeholder, who passed the information, went on to suggest that in order to further nurture local talent among chefs and pastry chefs a wider contest under the auspices of the Seychelles Tourism Academy should be launched to annually determine a Superchef from among the local Seychellois chefs to equip them better for their future life in the kitchen and learn to aspire to bring Michelin stars to the islands one day. Not a bad idea at all adds this correspondent, to have a new breed of young Seychellois Superchefs come into their own.
