TURKISH MAKES IT A WHOPPING 44 AFRICA DESTINATIONS
(Posted 27thMay 2015)
The addition of Bamako yesterday brought the number of Turkish Airlines’ African destinations to now 44, spread across 28 countries. This makes Turkish the largest foreign carrier in terms of destinations, only rivalled by African airlines like Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways at present.
There however is no letup in sight as yet as Turkish has already made plans public to add yet more destinations, most of them served with Boeing B737-800NG’s and Boeing B737-900NG’s, the latter the largest B737 family member in terms of passenger seats. A few destinations however are served by wide bodied aircraft, where passenger numbers and direct competition make it necessary.
Bamako, according to information received, will initially be served three times a week, once via Niamey and twice via Ouagadougou.
In Eastern Africa does Turkish serve Entebbe in conjunction with Kigali on a daily basis and also flies to Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Mombasa. A recent Skytrax survey again placed Turkish on top of the rankings for European airlines.
