Dear Friend of Ol Pejeta:

Heli-Art is a spectacular form of painting produced from a flying helicopter by the German action painter Dr. Heiner Börger. On the 9th of April 2014 he will be performing at Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

At 9:30 am the artist will position his canvasses right on the line of the equator. He will then fly over the set several times with a helicopter deliberately overriding the equator as a borderline. The wind of the rotors blasts and mixes up the colours on the canvasses, leaving unique tracks and patterns. Grass and seeds stirred up also settle on the canvas leaving an abstract image of the surrounding. After this the artist will land the helicopter gently on the canvasses. The skids of the aircraft will mix up colours from both sides of the equator.

Dr. Börger studied at the prestigious Academy of Arts in Berlin and has been an artist his entire professional life. He uses Heli-Art to symbolise an artistic symbiosis between man, technology and the elements of nature. The purchase of just one of his creations would set you back 18,000 dollars.

Representing the world´s longest borderline the equator serves as an optimal stage for the first in his “think about freedom” concept series. The concept will be continued to other global borders. For Börger, borders represent important landmarks and relate to identity and belonging. With this new concept he intends to provoke people to re-think their concept of freedom; do borders limit freedom or are they a pre-condition for it?

Ol Pejeta visitors will have the opportunity to watch this amazing performance at no extra fee.

After the performance, Dr. Börger will donate one of the pieces to the Conservancy. The piece will be put up for auction in the Ol Pejeta Online Auction this May. All funds raised will go directly to the anti-poaching Canine Unit at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
