GORILLA HIGHLANDS SILVERCHEF COMES TO RWANDA FOR THE FIRST TIME
(Posted 24th April 2018)
The 4th Gorilla Highlands Silverchef Regional Cooking Competition and
Networking Event will be held in Kigali, Rwanda next weekend between the 28th and 29th of April 2018 at the Kigali Marriott Hotel. It has never taken place in Rwanda before.
The event is organised by Gorilla Highlands, a private-sector initiative to globally brand and promote the transboundary region shared by Rwanda,
Uganda and — starting on 28 April — the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Instead of a short stop-over to see mountain gorillas, the initiative wants to position it as a region that has a lot to offer and should be a destination by
itself. The Gorilla Highlands initiative sees responsible tourism as a tool for
economic and social development and seeks to protect the culture and
wellbeing of the region’s disadvantaged people.
The main approach of Gorilla Highlands is to bring the private sector of the three countries together, create business linkages and personal networks.
Gorilla Highlands Silverchef is its central annual event. Attracting the tourism,
conservation, media and development industries, it celebrates culinary
excellence and fosters cooperation.
16 chefs have enrolled for the 2018 edition of the Gorilla Highlands Silverchef.
They will be judged by an international panel led by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang H.
Thome and including the previous year’s competition winner, Allan Mukasa.
The VIP invitation-only part of the event will take place on Saturday 28th from
12pm to 6pm. It will offer two food tasting sessions from chefs’ competitionentries, networking and an update on the Gorilla Highlands initiative.
On Sunday 29th of April 2018 the public part of the event will follow from 12pm to 2pm, the Gorilla Highlands brunch inspired by the competition entries. After a kids’ cooking challenge and a raffle, the awards ceremony will close the event. A silver hat for the winner and quality cooking/successful participation certificates and prizes will be given out.
