HOSEA 2014 – a month and counting

HOSEA 2014 IN FINAL COUNTDOWN TO EAST AFRICA’S PREMIER HOTEL CONFERENCE

Slujan Events, the organizers of HOSEA 2014 and the Kenya Hospitality Trade Fair, the two running in parallel from 14th to 16th of May inclusive, have given further updates on the upcoming symposium, programme components and speakers.

One of the new features for this year is the ‘Chef’s Corner’ and excitement is building up by regular readers of this column to get to see some of Kenya’s renowned chefs in action and perhaps learn a few tricks from them.

Kenya’s first celebrity Chef Ali has partnered with Slujan Events, organizer of the Kenya Hospitality Trade Fair to launch the premier Chefs Corner from 14 – 16 May, 2014 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

A first in the hospitality industry, the Chefs Corner is expected to be the absolute showstopper of KHTF 2014. Chef Ali in conjunction with leading Chefs from East Africa’s top hotels and restaurants will showcase their culinary art skills and display their vast talents.

A platform under the wing of the Kenya Hospitality Trade Fair, the Chef’s Corner is a feature designed to give the actual representation of a hotel kitchen with the objective to show the visitors the actual use of the products and equipment as used in a hotel kitchen by the professional chef. The live cooking demonstrations hosted by Chef Ali in a fun, engaging and relaxed atmosphere, we will create a platform for professionals in the industry to teach, engage, interact, learn from each other and gain knowledge on various products and services.

Some of the participating hotels and establishments are drawn from such leading establishments as the Fairmont Group, Sarova Panafric, Voyager Resort, Hilton Hotel, Sand River Masai Mara, among other leading hotels and resorts.

Participating partners of the Chefs Corner include Merican Stainless Steel, Benham International, Haco Tiger Brands, Kenya Meat Commission, Nairobi Kitchen Care, among other industry stakeholders.

The sessions are planned for 3 days to run in tandem with KHTF 2014 and will incorporate various elements of a dining experience. In the demonstration area, we will have a fully-fledged kitchen with 3 working stations. Exciting elements of the show will include:

– Executive Plate Presentation by Chef Ali.

– Preparation of signature dishes by participating chefs in a live theatre.

– Demonstrate unique aspects of ingredients and equipment used in food preparation.

The objective of the Chefs Corner is to offer professional culinary education to Chefs, Food & Beverage Managers and Purchasing Managers who are decision makers and influencers in food purchases and kitchen equipment– on various culinary matters such as meal planning, food preparation, presentation and more. The event will also serve to enhance the profiles of hotel establishments.

Meanwhile will participants in the Hotel Summit Conference be keen to learn about the latest status update about HOSEA 2014.

The 2014 Hotel Summit East Africa will this year place a huge focus on the state of the global and regional hotel industry. Relying on research figures and trends from the year 2013, the conference, organized by Kenyan Event Organizer Slujan Events, will be gauging the region’s economic outlook with a focus on economic recovery, talent management, finance and capacity building, as well as the relationships between the airlines, tour operators and the hoteliers and standardization of the hotel industry.

Geared towards enlightening the C-level delegates, HOSEA 2014 will seek to leverage on the positive outlook of East Africa as an investment hub and a business destination for many corporates and brands seeking to expand into Africa.

The high impact conference will begin with a presentation by Mr. David Harper, Head of Property Services at Hotel Partners Africa, on the State of Global & Regional Hotel Industry. The session will be a high level presentation that will discuss the current hotel industry fundamentals such as the development pipeline, occupancy, Average Daily Rates (ADR) and Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR).

A few of the other key speakers at HOSEA 2014 will be Rabih Feghali, Director Business Development at Roya International who will speak under the topic Securing Finance for Hotels and Hard Talk between Airlines, Tour Operators and Hoteliers, Clemens Faber, Corporate Director of Operations at Plan Hotel Hospitality Group who will speak under the topic Growing the Domestic & Regional Market and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Thome, one of East Africa’s leading travel bloggers and Africa correspondent for eTurboNews, Richard Vigne, Chief Executive Officer Ol Pejeta Conservancy who will speak on Building & Operating Green Hotels and Lasse Ristolainen Development Director, Sub Saharan Africa, Hilton Worldwide speaking on Budget Hotels vs. 5-star hotels.

The conference is organized in partnership with the Eastern Africa Economic Chambers of Commerce (EAECC), and will be held from 15-16 May, 2014, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre. The conference targets professionals in C-level management in the wider hospitality industry and discusses trends and issues that propel the hospitality industry in East & Central Africa. This year’s summit will run under the theme “Moving Forward with Confidence”.
