Last weekend saw host country Seychelles’ earn multiple trophies at the World Travel Awards which were held at the Kempinski Seychelles Resort in Baie Lazare on the main island of Mahe.
The Seychelles Tourism Board collected a trophy after he archipelago was named as the Indian Ocean’s leading destination, no surprise there considering the nearly eight yearlong juggernaut across the world which commenced when Alain St. Ange first came on board as Director of Tourism Marketing before he was promoted to CEO of STB prior to becoming Minister of Tourism and Culture three years ago. He and his team have consistently broken arrival records and put the Seychelles on the global map like no other destination of its size ever accomplished.
The Kempinski, host to the award ceremony, got a double as the archipelago’s leading conference hotel and the Indian Ocean’s leading MICE hotel while neighbours Four Seasons took home three trophies for the Seychelles’ leading resort, the Indian Ocean’s leading resort and the archipelago’s leading hotel suite.
Other winners were Raffles, Hilton, Saint Anne Island, Constance Lemuria, Banyan Tree, Enchanted Island Resort, Fregate Island and notably the only recently re-opened Avani Barbarons.
All the winners have qualified to also compete in the global edition of the World Travel Awards which is taking place in December in Morocco, after all the regional finals’ winners have been announced.
