REUNION’S DOMESTIC TOURISM PROMOTION ‘ALON BAT KARE’ RETURNS THIS WEEKEND

(Posted 24th June 2015)

Another domestic tourism promotion will go underway this weekend when the people of Reunion will be able to sample the wide range of tourism attractions and products at significant rebates, including voucher packages rolling several activities into one.

Delighted with the success of past editions of Alon Bat Karé is IRT, Ile de la Reunion Tourisme, once again not just on board but a key driver to make the local population more aware of the importance of tourism for the island and through rebates for locals have as many as possible partake in the event. Participating is the Intercommunal Tourism Office North but also the private sector apex body Reunion Tourism Federation. The initiative is now also supported by the European Union besides the regional government of the island which is a French region in the Indian Ocean.

This fourth edition coincides with the start of the school holidays, giving many of the people living on the island the opportunity to have their children and themselves seek out some of the thrills the island offers foreign tourists.

The series of such promotional events was launched with Alon Bat Karé South, which took place from 05th to 07th of December last year at Etang-Salé-les-Bains. In 2015 did the event coincide with a volcanic outbreak, aptly named Alon Bat Karé Volcano, taking place at the last weekend of February. Alon Karé Bat Dan West, held on the 25th and 26th of April, was also a great success when over 1.200 locals participated who are came to meet tourism professionals using these two days on the Hermitage site to showcase their offers, buying over 1.500 rebated services at the time.

Depending again on the type of activity can a double pack be purchased at just 40 Euros, making excellent value for money while allowing for locals to discover their own island and see it through the eyes of a tourist. Be it helicoptering around, driving a Segway, racing down ziplines, paragliding, discovering the ocean floor and the marine life or participating in a workshop how to make Samosas, multiple options exist both outdoors and indoors. Details on the next event of this kind will be announced at the closing of Alon Bat Karé on the 28th of June.
