ICAO Green Airports Seminar 2026

Cairo, Egypt | 29–30 October 2026

I have the honour to invite you to participate in the ICAO Green Airports Seminar 2026, taking place on 29–30 October 2026 in Cairo, Egypt, at The St. Regis Cairo, hosted by the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports & Air Navigation (EHCAAN).

As the aviation sector works to reduce CO? emissions while responding to increasing climate-related risks, airports have a critical role to play in enabling aviation decarbonization, strengthening resilience and supporting the transition towards more sustainable operations and infrastructure.

Over two days, the Seminar will bring together States, airport operators, airlines, air navigation service providers, financial institutions, academia, international organizations and other stakeholders to exchange experiences and identify practical approaches to sustainable and climate-resilient airport development.

Event Highlight: From Ambition to Implementation

The first day of the event will focus on decarbonizing airports, from operations to infrastructure, and the practical measures that airports and key stakeholders can implement to reduce emissions. Discussions will address operational measures to reduce aircraft emissions and the decarbonization of airport energy systems. Other environmental topics that will be addressed include noise management, resource circularity and sustainable plastic management. The Seminar will also consider Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), Lower Carbon Aviation Fuels (LCAF) and other cleaner energy solutions, as well as infrastructure readiness for electrified and hydrogen-powered ground support equipment, advanced air mobility and alternative propulsion technologies.

The second day will focus on climate adaptation and resilient airports, examining how climate risks are affecting aviation infrastructure and operations and, importantly, how these risks can be translated into concrete adaptation action. Discussions will draw on climate science and real-world experiences of extreme events to explore practical approaches to adaptation planning and infrastructure resilience, as well as the financing and partnerships needed to support implementation at scale.

The ICAO Green Airports Seminar 2026 will be particularly relevant for:

  • Civil aviation authorities and government representatives working on aviation environment, airport planning and climate resilience
  • Airport operators, airlines and air navigation service providers
  • Aviation environmental, sustainability, energy, infrastructure and operations professionals
  • Financial institutions and organizations involved in infrastructure investment and sustainable finance
  • International organizations, academia, research institutions and industry
  • Technology and service providers supporting sustainable and resilient airport development
