Kenya’s Ministry of Health has formally admitted to the general public additional Ebola cases after news emerged in the local media that at least four more Ebola cases were found, bringing the overall number to seven.
Of the first patient’s 130 contacts, the Health Ministry said 128 had been quarantined while the search for 2 more is ongoing. It was learned earlier on that some identified contacts of the first victim had travelled on to destinations beyond Kenya and government officials stated that health authorities in these places had been notified accordingly.
The ministry also keeps saying that there is no evidence that the virus is spreading in the community.
Across the border in Uganda anger is now growing in regard to the way Uganda was treated with almost instant anti travel advisories after the first imported case was reported while no such action appears to be taken over the Kenya outbreak.
Wrote a regular commentor on ATCNews articles, on condition of strict anonymity for fear of repercussions: ‘It is obvious that they have an agenda against Uganda. In fact, the US and even Canada still have entry restrictions in place against Ugandans, weeks after WHO confirmed the outbreak was officially over. Our tourism sector and our trade sector were hit very hard back then after even Dubai had locked out Ugandan’s from entry at the time. We are just puzzled how no such action is taken over the Kenya outbreak. Discrimination and bias is real but we shall deal with it.‘
ATCNews continues to monitor the situation in Kenya and will inform readers about any changes in case numbers.
