#Kenya’s ‘Little Ride’ set for #Uganda debut

UGANDA’S TAXI MARKET DUE FOR SHAKE UP AS UBER RIVAL ‘LITTLE RIDE‘ READY TO LAUNCH

(Posted 15th May 2018)

Uganda’s taxi market is about to get another massive shake up when Kenya’s Little Ride, backed by SafariCom, will launch operations, said to take place in the second half of May. The Ugandan market is presently dominated by regular ‘Special Hire‘ vehicles – Uganda’s peculiar name for what other countries simply call taxis – and two App based operators, UBER and Taxify.
UBER in Kenya lost major market share to Little Ride when the company launched operations and in Uganda the same trend is expected to take hold.
Little Ride was expected to cross the border already last year but probably wanted to gain better market intelligence before starting operations in Uganda, their second country in Africa. According to information received from Nairobi will Little Rides then also launch operations in more African countries and Nigeria has been named as next on their list.
No fares have been set yet but during the launch period it is expected that Ugandans’ will enjoy the benefit of increased competition and vote with their wallets when hailing a cab with their smart phone.
