When the African Union Summit 2016 will open its doors on the 10th of July, will Rwanda’s new national convention and exhibition center and the adjoining Radisson Blu Hotel Kigali be at the heart of things, meetings, accommodation and banquets.
The new facility is at the very core of Rwanda’s drive to capture a larger portion of the MICE business and when later in the year the new Kigali Marriott Hotel will open, reportedly due in September, will additional bedrooms in the top market segment allow for larger conferences, meetings and conventions to come to the Rwandan capital.
Also in the finishing stages is the Ramada in Kigali and Starwood Hotels too has confirmed that they will enter the Rwandan market with their Sheraton brand.
This expansion drive goes hand in hand with what is happening at the national airline, RwandAir, which is due to take delivery of yet another Boeing B737-800NG before in September the first of two Airbus A330’s will join the fleet. At that stage will both Mumbai, via Dar es Salaam and Guangzhou be added to the network.
The picture above shows a night time impression of the new hotel and convention centre complex, taken from an Akagera Aviation helicopter a few days ago, which is located just 15 minutes drive from the international airport near Rwanda’s Parliament building.
