Visitors to the Kruger National Park face a change to their travel plans next month, with one of the main entrances to Skukuza Rest Camp set to close for more than four weeks.

The Skukuza Rest Camp Main Gate will shut from Monday, November 02nd, until Friday, December 04th, as essential repairs are carried out on its roof structure.

The temporary closure means visitors will have to use an alternative entrance to access the camp, with motorists urged to familiarise themselves with the new route before arriving.

Johannes “JP” Louw, spokesperson for South African National Parks (SANParks), said the alternative entrance would be accessed via Hippo Circle Street, the road leading to Skukuza Medical Doctor/Surgery.

Visitors will enter through AM Spa and Skukuza Safari Lodge while maintenance work continues at the main gate.

“Visitors are requested to follow directional signage and instructions from park staff to ensure a safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians,” Louw said.

The closure forms part of SANParks’ ongoing infrastructure management programme, which aims to ensure facilities across the Kruger National Park remain safe, functional and in good condition.

Louw said the organisation regretted any disruption the temporary closure might cause.

“SANParks apologises for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and appreciates the patience and cooperation of visitors, tourism partners and staff while these important improvement works are undertaken,” he said.

The repairs are expected to be completed by December 4, although the deadline could change depending on weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances.

Visitors planning to travel to Skukuza during November are advised to follow the temporary route and pay attention to signs and instructions from park staff.
