#KENYA RAILWAYS FINALLY OPENS ONLINE BOOKING PLATFORM
(Posted 09th January 2018)
For once is Kenya Railways really ‘right on track‘ as news have emerged from Nairobi that the organization has finally opened an online booking portal for wannabe passengers using the Madaraka Express.
One can now simply click on https://metickets.krc.co.ke/ , however only to find out that payment by credit cards is still not possible with only M-Pesa payment acceptable.
This has again enraged the travel community as well as individuals given the availability of secure electronic payment options, that such quintessential fundamentals continue to be overlooked, a damning indictment of the capacity of those tasked with marketing the services and customer experience BEFORE boarding one of the trains.
‘Not everyone uses M-Pesa and more and more people who book their air tickets and hotels online use credit or debit cards or PayPal. I acknowledge that at last they have launched an online booking platform but again they exclude everyone who is not using M-Pesa. What sort of people does Kenya Railways employ who do not know how to go about doing travel business in this day and age? After nearly 7 months in operation that is simply no longer acceptable‘ wrote a regular Nairobi based travel agent who deals in both domestic as well as international sales, echoing a number of further comments received.
That said, Kenya Railways is clearly an organization of small steps, and one at a time, and no doubt will all eyes be on them to see as and when they open their bookings on other platforms too and finally enable payment by credit and debit cards.
