A Marburg Fever outbreak in Tanzania has prompted the local health authorities to issue a travel advisory for both local and international travelers.

The area of the outbreak, the Kagera region, borders on Uganda and Rwanda and measures have been put in place by these countries to monitor cross border traffic from Tanzania.

Kenya too has instituted similar measures at land borders with Tanzania and airports.

More recently did Uganda suffer an Ebola outbreak which was eventually brought under control but the mere presence of such an infectious disease in a country will always impact on the travel patterns from overseas visitors, whose travel health insurances may not cover visits to affected regions.
