Masai Cricket Warriors invited for London appearance

This is a re-posting in support of the Kenyan Masai Warriors Cricket team which is due to leave for the UK shortly to perform at the ‘Last Man Stands World Championship’ between 25th August and 04th of September.  Best of luck to Aliya and all her supporters to raise the required funds and send the team on the way.

The Maasai Cricket Warriors team has been invited to compete in the Last Man Stands World Championships taking place in London, United Kingdom from the 25th August – 4th September 2013. The global competition will feature 65 amateur teams from various countries fighting it out for the ultimate crowning glory of proving which is the best Last Man Stands team in the world.  The Maasai Cricket Warriors’ team will be the only team from Kenya participating in the event and they will be proudly representing the country as ambassadors of Kenya. The unique appeal of the team is that they will be competing in traditional attire, which will instantly identify them with Kenya and this alone will market and promote Kenya and Laikipia County in addition to adding colour and African flavour to the tournament, which will enhance the spectator value of the Last Man Stands World Championships. The Maasai Cricket Warriors have been receiving plenty of international publicity and competing teams and cricket fans are eagerly waiting to see the Maasai Cricket Warriors in action.

The Maasai Cricket Warriors will also be ambassadors of Laikipia County while in London, and in addition to striving to bring the cup home, they will proudly be sharing their culture as well as delivering other important social messages to youth and competitors.  Our biggest challenge now lies in sourcing and securing the remaining funds required to cover the expenses to make the team’s trip to the world championships a reality.  This will be an ideal opportunity for the team to promote tourism in Laikipia and to invite other competitors to visit Laikipia and to engage in sporting tourism and cross cultural exchanges while at the same time giving Kenya and Laikipia County global mileage.

Time is running out and with less than 2 weeks left before the team are due to depart for the tournament we desperately need to secure the outstanding funds to ensure that the Maasai Cricket Warriors honour their selection to compete in this global event.

To date we have managed to raise just over US$24,000 (+/- KSh1.9 million).  This still leaves us with a shortfall of US$19,750 (+/- KES1.6 million).

With the support of the County Government of Laikipia we are holding a charity cocktail fundraiser on Saturday, 17th August 2013from 5pm onwards at Sportsman’s Arms Hotel, Nanyuki to try and raise the outstanding funds to help the Maasai Cricket Warriors reach the “Home of Cricket” in England for the World Championships.  The cocktail event will be held in conjunction with the first round of the Miss Tourism Kenya – Laikipia Beauty Pageant.

The County Government of Laikipia through the Department of Tourism, Trade and Enterprise Development have partnered with the  Maasai Cricket Warriors to promote Laikipia’s tourism sector and cultural heritage. The Maasai Cricket Warriors are in a position to act as brand ambassadors for Laikipia’s tourism products globally.

We would like to utilize the cocktail fundraising event to bring together the business community and all stakeholders of Laikipia County to provide everyone an opportunity to network and exchange contacts while at the same time supporting this valuable cause and sharing the vision that the County Government have for Laikipia County.

As a way of marketing tourism enterprises and other businesses in Laikipia we are offering businesses the opportunity to promote and market themselves during our fundraiser by offering discount/specials coupons (vouchers) to all attendees which will encourage and attract customers to their businesses. Examples of a voucher would include logo and contact details of the company and a special offer/s such as “Ksh250 off a x purchase”, “15% off x”, “buy 2-get-one-free” etc, together with the time validity/expiry date of the coupon.

We are also having a raffle draw at the cocktail fundraiser with prizes being offered by various businesses in Laikipia, which is another way that we are able to offer marketing and publicity to businesses.

Cost of tickets for our cocktail fundraiser is Ksh1,200 if pre-paid before Thursday, 15th August or Ksh1,500 at the door, with proceeds supporting the Maasai Cricket Warriors’ journey to London.

Price includes: Cocktail Drink, Cocktail Snacks, 1 Free Raffle Ticket, Booklet of Discount Coupons/Vouchers from Laikipia businesses valued at over Ksh3,000, Entry into Miss Tourism Kenya – Laikipia Beauty Pageant, Live Entertainment and the opportunity to meet and network with great people of Laikipia.
