SIR SEEWOOSAGUR RAMGOOLAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT EXPANSION ANNOUNCED

(Posted 23rd August 2017)

A second passenger terminal is to be constructed at Mauritius’ main international gateway with a provisional completion date by 2020.The announcement was made during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Air Mauritius which uses the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport as its main hub.
Apart from cruise ship passengers does Mauritius depend on air transport to bring the million plus tourists to the island which has retained its attraction for visitors from around the world despite challenges the tourism industry faces.
Emirates notably flies twice a day with an Airbus A380 to Mauritius and a third requested flight was reportedly denied last year by aviation officials in Port Louis.
Air Mauritius, after financially difficult years, is now back in profit territory attributed to the cutting of nonperforming routes and reducing other cost burdens.
