With Extinction Rebellion, Greta Thunberg on Swedish school strikes and climate protests taking headlines around the world, more and more people are taking action with an environmental message. Every day, MKT sees the impacts that a changing climate and rapidly increasing human activities on a precious ecosystem.

From plastic waste, logging to intensive fires, the mountain is under pressure and we can all do our part to help. Africa’s towns and cities will bear the brunt of the effects of climate change and there is much to do to prepare for change.

Join us to plant some trees, race at the 10to4 Mountain Bike Event, climb the mountain, organise a fundraiser or help install some water tanks. Take action in your own way and help us to change mindsets.

Camera trap photographs show the existence a single wild, lone female Bongo, along with her signs of footprints and dung in the Ragati Forest on Mount Kenya.

The Bongo Surveillance Project (BSP) reported recent heavy human intrusion of poachers with dogs in the bongo camera trap area. Domestic stock were grazing into the lower area. Signs of a fire where poachers have camped overnight are present and BSP hope the human intrusion can be stopped following community meetings.

Plans for a higher presence and patrol base in the area have been approved by KFS and KWS.

PLANT PLANT PLANT – The MKT moto!

How do you erase 100 years of carbon emissions? Plant trees – lots of them, says a recent National Geographic article.

Twice a year, the MKT team are out in force on the mountain, planting tens of thousands of indigenous trees and greening up the slopes. For the rest of the year, we are always on the go – looking for new planting sites and supporters. Whether it’s crawling through thick undergrowth, getting stuck in the mud or loading hundreds of seedlings in the pouring rain, we do it FOR THE LOVE of restoring our forest.

Increasing the Earth’s forests by an areas the size of the United States, says the article, would cut atmospheric carbon dioxide by 25 per cent!
