LET 410 CRASHES NEAR BOR IN SOUTH SUDAN

Yet another crash has rocked the aviation fraternity in South Sudan when news started to come in that a LET 410 cargo flight crashed outside the town of Bor.
The aircraft came from the town of Walgak and was destined for the city of Juba but diverted due to bad weather. It was on its approach to the town of Bor when it had to make a forced landing in the bush for reasons yet to be fully established. The weather at the time was described as very bad too with rainstorms lashing the area around Bor.
The plane’s registration of YI-BYO, apparently an Iraqi registration number, also raised questions as the Iraqi registry does not show this aircraft on their books which is now also subject to further investigation by the South Sudan authorities.
Two crew and two passengers were on board and two of the four reportedly seriously injured and eventually evacuated for treatment by staff of UNMISS, which were alerted to the accident by local villagers.
An air accident investigation is presently going underway.
The operator of the aircraft, Abeer Air Services, has yet to issue a statement about the accident.
