A second incident involving Silverstone Air in the space of just over two weeks has prompted the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority to throw the book at the airline and institute a safety audit.

This follows an incident earlier today when one of the airline’s Dash 8-300 aircraft lost a wheel when taking off from Lodwar with destination Wilson Airport Nairobi.
The aircraft subsequently diverted to Eldoret’s international airport where it made an emergency landing.
No one of the passengers and crew on board was reportedly injured.
Social media in Kenya went into overdrive, narrating their own episodes while calling upon KCAA to take immediate action, something the authority had already done when the information about the incident reached them.
The safety audit outcome will decide the future of Silverstone’s operations but the negative publicity will no doubt translate into passengers seeking alternative flight options.
