Air transport into and out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport had to be halted yesterday afternoon after the radar installations failed, leading to delayed departures and diversions of incoming flights to such airports as Mombasa and Kisumu.Other ncoming flights from other destinations were kept in a holding pattern, ready to divert too should the restoration of services have taken longer than what turned out to be around 1 1/2 hours
The subsequent statement by KCAA is shown above, further explaining the circumstances of the outage and the authority’s reaction to it to repair the faulty equipment.

Meanwhile are no further details available as of now of the crash landing of a Cessna 206 with the Kenyan registration 5Y-WCA, which came down near the town of Kwale while enroute to Diani’s Ukunda airfield.

The aircraft was reportedly enroute from the Chyulu Hills, a national park adjoining Tsavo West, and had no passengers on board at the time of the incident.
The pilot, who had earlier communicated engine problems, thankfully sustained only minor injuries.
An air accident investigation is underway.
