Former French football star Pascal Olmeta, who kept goal in the 1990’s for Lyon and Marseille, besides the national football team, was outed over the weekend as a bloodthirsty elephant killer, whose misplaced shot had the elephant scream in agony before a head shot then finished the job.
Olmeta went to Africa in 2011 and the disgusting scenes were filmed on video which now became public, turning the former football hero into a public villain and outcast.
The full story was published by the Daily Mail in the UK, which must be thanked to expose such lamentable behaviour and aims to stop other sportsmen from committing similar acts of cruelty or simply make them afraid to go and hunt for fear of their public reputation.
For Olmeta of course any regrets come far too late now after he was outed, named and shamed and no amount of damage repair by his PR mouthpieces will be able to repair his reputation which has in one fell swoop gone down the drain. His hapless utternances in mitigation can only be dismissed as an attempt to justify what he did, and having been found out, now left in tatters after failing to do the only sensible thing, apologize and denounce big game hunting.
