The weekly screening of travel programmes, highlighting the many attractions the African continent, including the Indian Ocean islands off the mainland hold for travelers from Africa, has swiftly risen in popularity.
Screened on Africa’s premier satellite network, DStv, are ratings going through the roof for Channel 165 EbonyLive TV.
No doubt aided by a hugely successful programme about the Seychelles, has the new series, which was launched at the recent INDABA Travel Trade Show in Durban, exceeded the expectations of producers and TV executives.
Next weekend will the series take a look at Magical Kenya, eventually covering over a dozen key African tourism destinations.
The primary aim of course is to get African travelers interested to visit other African countries, instead of leaving the continent for a vacation, and the wide range of quality accommodation available, as well as ever easier travel connections by air through some of Africa’s leading airlines like Kenya Airways, RwandAir and others, is seen as providing easy logistics for wannabe travelers.

Follow programme presenter Oreka Godis and Nairobian, Kwame Bonsu as they experience 48 Hours in Nairobi and beyond and take a whirlwind trip, savouring Swahili dishes, cultural gems, luxury dhow cruises and idyllic beaches in a country known for its Indian-Arabic influence.

The two explore our own backyard the way the African traveller would experience their ideal vacation. Each episode features a Nigerian personality who meets a local host and together they explore the country’s top-end attractions, rich history, authentic treasures, culinary delights and some unexpected gems.

The initially featured destinations include: Kenya, Seychelles, Mauritius, Tanzania, Zambia, Rwanda, Ghana, The Gambia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria though it is understood that more countries will be showcased in a follow on series, including Uganda, the Pearl of Africa.

Said Wakanow’s CEO Obinna Ekezie, when asked to comment on the market impact and buzz the new series already generated after the initial two screenings: ‘The Destinations Africa show points out that Wakanow is poised to become a key player, in not only Africa but the world, with an undying passion to change the way people travel. The program is an avenue to showcase the best of what Africa has to offer as well as the added value of getting well-priced travel packages made possible by the very extensive partnership that Wakanow has with airlines, hotels and tourism stakeholders in Africa‘.
