Construction Begins on Our New Camp

Over the years, our small project has grown into an organization with more than 20 staff members and 9 core lion conservation and research programs. The new Ewaso Lions Conservation Camp will accommodate our team with better living conditions and allow us to get on with our work without spending so much time patching tents, carrying water, or driving 30 minutes to send an email. We worked with local people and partners to carefully select a site that would meet our needs, but not intrude on land that might be needed by people and their livestock, and would not cause environmental degradation. Our new Camp is scheduled to be completed by January 2015. We can’t wait!

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has announced the potential listing of the African lion as ‘Threatened’ under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. The listing is warranted given the substantial evidence of the population decline, loss of habitat, and ongoing threats facing lions across the continent. The public has 90 days to comment on the proposed listing, with details on how to do so on the USFWS website. We welcome having an open dialogue on this complex issue during the comment period. Please join Ewaso Lions in supporting the listing.
