The Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) has announced Silver James Birungi as a Disney Conservation Hero. He has been recognized for his passion and dedication to protecting chimpanzees and their habitats in Uganda.

Silver has traveled across Uganda to raise awareness and help change minds, attitudes, behaviors and actions; reaching more than 11,673 students in nearly 200 schools, as well as 8,000 community members.

"I always believe that every single person whose feelings are changed to have a positive attitude, behavior and actions towards wildlife / environment is a big step towards saving endangered plants and animals," said Mr. Birungi. "This award represents the collective effort, team work and mentorship from CSWCT, PASA and Disney. I’m very grateful for this achievement, and I am inspired by this award to strive even harder to make a difference in the communities where we work."

Disney Conservation Heroes receive an award medal, recognition certificate and cash award that is shared with their nominating organization. The DWCF annually invites non-profit organizations who have received conservation funding in the past to nominate individuals in communities around the world for their incredible conservation efforts. Since 2004, Disney has honored 85 Conservation Heroes.

Birungi is one of only fourteen award recipients this year.
