No more commissions for RwandAir ticket sales come January 2020

RWANDAIR REDUCES AGENTS COMMISSION FROM 3 PERCENT TO ZERO

(Posted 20th December 2019)

Information is emerging that RwandAir has announced that the airline will shed paying agents commission which hitherto stood at 3 percent. As of 01st of January 2020 will ticket sales no longer be commissionable to travel agents.
This comes in the face of increased competition in East Africa, with Air Tanzania now growing their regional, African and international network with already 8 brand new aircraft on their fleet while Uganda Airlines too, with a current fleet of 4 brand new CRJ900’s has expanded rapidly into the region. Uganda Airlines expects to take delivery of two Airbus A330Neo’s in late 2020 and early 2021, bringing their fleet to six while their outlook into the future also sees their fleet growing further.
In Entebbe in particular will RwandAir feel the pinch as Uganda Airlines already operates two daily flights to Juba and up to three flights to Nairobi a day. This is reportedly eroding passenger numbers on the RwandAir 5th freedom flights from Entebbe to both Juba and Nairobi.
Kenya Airways, when a new CEO is in place, is also expected to undergo a positive transformation and with both Air Tanzania and Uganda Airlines planning flights to Europe will the fight for passengers and market share no doubt further intensify in East Africa.
