When the name Seychelles is mentioned, inevitably does the mind jump to conclusions and images of snow white beaches, crystal clear azure waters, blue skies and a tropical backdrop of vegetation create a picture in the minds of those in the group where the word was dropped. Others, more informed, think of the archipelago’s festivals, the annual Carnival, the Festival Kreol, of SUBIOS, the Feast of Assumption and more, while others think of yacht charters, scuba diving or hiking the mountains of the Morne National Park.
Everyone has an image of perfection in his or her mind, when the name Seychelles comes up.
Some very lucky, and perhaps very rich individuals have made the dreams of many come true for themselves when they acquired on of the 115 island the archipelago is made up of and news just broken, that the famous island of Descroche has changed hands, will only fuel the desire of many to come visit and see the natural beauty of the Seychelles’ islands for themselves.
Home to one of the Seychelles best reputed resorts, where in fact the government twice hosted the Madagascar peace talks, is Descroches part of the outer islands and the largest one of the Amirantes group. Accessible by air through charters performed by either Air Seychelles or the aircraft of the Island Development Corporation, is it a manageable hop to cover the 230 kilometres from the main island of Mahe.
The island’s current owners, Desroches Island Lodge Limited, have announced that they have sold their business, and the island to new owners, a deal which will require the approval of the Seychelles government.
The statement received from DILL reads as follows:
Desroches Island Lodge Limited (DIL) are excited to announce that we have concluded negotiations
for the sale of the hotel and business situated on
Desroches Island, subject to the Government
of Seychelles consent and approvals.
We will continue to operate, manage and market the
hotel in the normal manner for the remainder of 2015,
but envisage handing over possession and control
to the new owners on 11 January 2016. DIL will
therefore not take any further bookings beyond 10
January 2016 accordingly. The new owners will close
the hotel for a period during 2016, in order to rebrand,
refurbish and enhance the facilities.
For bookings already confirmed after 10 January
2016 we will endevour to find suitable alternative
accommodation and contact you in due course.
We will continue with educationals until the end of
the year so please feel free to contact us to arrange
a visit and experience the magic of Desroches.
We are in the process of looking at all barters
entered for 2016 and where applicable we will
contact you with alternative options.
