One of Uganda’s leading conservation NGO’s appoints CEO

UGANDA CONSERVATION FOUNDATION APPOINTS FIRST GENERAL MANAGER IN ITS HISTORY

(Posted 23rd April 2015)

Anne Marie Weeden has been appointed as the Uganda Conservation Foundation’s first General Manager after a lengthy recruitment exercise.

The Trustees and board of the NGO yesterday released the following statement when they made the announcement which had been expected for the last few weeks:

It is with great pleasure that the Trustees and Directors of UCF/UCU can now announce that Anne-Marie Weeden is joining UCU as its firstGeneral Manager.

This follows an exhaustive recruitment process that saw many, very capable individuals from around the world applying for the position.

Anne-Marie brings a wealth of related experience to the table, much of it in the fields of tourism and business development, as well as being a published writer in both conservation and travel media.

Resident in Uganda for the last seven years, she has a deep-seated love of the wild, coupled with a pragmatic understanding of the immense pressures now being brought to bear on the fauna and flora of Africa.

Anne-Marie will be writing her own monthly column on our website, where she will have the opportunity to introduce herself in more detail, as well as a chance to share with you the ways in which UCF will be growing, along with updates from all of our projects in the field.

We now welcome her on-board as the newest member of the UCU team and pledge our support to her as begins to drive the next phase of further professionalising and expanding this organisation.

Anne Marie previously worked at Red Chilli Hideaway from 2008 to 2011, a hospitality business in Kampala and at the Paraa Ferry Crossing in Murchisons Falls National Park predominantly serving back packing tourists, before moving on to Journeys Discovering Africa to head the marketing team between 2011 and mid last year. He studied at the University of Stirling and had worked in the UK before eventually moving to Uganda. With conservation remaining a crucial component of what is overwhelmingly wildlife based tourism across Uganda does Anne Marie no doubt have her work cut out in coming weeks and months to advance education programmes and drive the NGO’s programmes and projects forward. Welcome to UCF and all the best Anne Marie!
