Passenger killed by running propeller while disembarking

A passenger on Star Airline’s Fokker 50, registered in Kenya as 5Y-NWA, MSN 20307 received deadly injuries when, while disembarking, walked into a running propeller at Dhusamareb Airport / Somalia.

Why the aircraft had a propeller running while on the ground without due safety precautions and safe guards will no doubt be a subject of the unfolding air accident investigation.

The man was according to information received from a Nairobi based source, part of a security detail for for the Banadir regional police chief, who was also on board of the aircraft.

It could not be established where the flight was coming from, understandable given the secretive nature of the mission the police chief was on.

Yet, another deadly aviation accident, although on the ground, in Somalia keeps questions coming in on aviation safety and aviation security in Somalia and how international organizations like ICAO are viewing such incidents vis a vis compliance of relevant global aviation regulations and agreements.
