Precision Air Services Plc hasbecome the first airline in Tanzania to receive approval for the implementation of an
Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) system, marking a significant milestone in the airline's digital
transformation journey and reaffirming its commitment to innovation, operational
excellence, and environmental sustainability.
The approval follows a successful five phase assessment conducted by the Tanzania Civil
Aviation Authority (TCAA), during which Precision Air demonstrated full compliance with all
regulatory and operational requirements for the deployment and use of the Electronic
Flight Bag system.
The EFB platform integrates pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight functions into a single digital
solution, replacing traditional paper-based documentation and manual processes. The
system provides pilots with instant access to operational manuals, navigation charts, flight
planning information, performance calculations, weather updates, and reporting tools
through a secure electronic platform.
The introduction of the EFB is expected to enhance operational efficiency, improve access
to real-time information, strengthen safe operations, reduce administrative workload, and
significantly minimize the use of paper across flight operations.
Commenting on the achievement, Precision Air Managing Director and Chief Executive
Officer, Mr. Patrick Mwanri, said the milestone represents more than a technological
advancement for the airline.
‘The introduction of the Electronic Flight Bag is a major milestone for Precision Air and the
aviation industry in Tanzania. While it demonstrates our commitment to innovation and
operational excellence, it is equally an important step in our sustainability journey.
By replacing paper-based processes with a digital platform, we are reducing our
environmental footprint while improving efficiency and enhancing the quality of information
available to our flight crews. This achievement reflects our continuous investment in
technologies that improve safety, operational reliability, and environmental responsibility.
We are proud to be the first airline in Tanzania to implement this technology and remain
committed to leading the industry through innovation and sustainable business practices.’
Mr. Mwanri also expressed appreciation to the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority for its
guidance and oversight throughout the assessment and approval process, as well as to
the airline’s flight operations, safety, and technical teams whose dedication made the
project a success.
The adoption of the Electronic Flight Bag aligns with global aviation best practices and
supports the industry's transition toward more efficient and environmentally responsible
operations. By eliminating thousands of pages of paper documentation previously carried
and updated manually, the system contributes to reduced paper consumption, streamlined
workflows, and enhanced operational performance. Precision Air also participates in the
Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), an
international initiative designed to monitor, measure, and report carbon emissions from
international aviation operations. Through its participation, Precision Air continues to track
emissions from its operations and implement measures aimed at reducing its carbon
footprint and supporting the aviation industry's broader goal of achieving more sustainable
and environmentally responsible air transport.
As Tanzania’s leading private airline, Precision Air continues to invest in modern
technologies that improve customer experience, strengthen operational resilience, and
support the long-term sustainability of the aviation sector.
